Rehearsals and Etiquette
Please ensure you have all GCU rehearsal and concert dates in your diaries. This includes additional rehearsals for concerts for which we are paid a fee. Full details are provided in the rehearsal schedule that is produced for each term.
Members are expected to sing in all concerts promoted by GCU, and to attend all rehearsals. At Jack's discretion, if you do not attend 80% of rehearsals, you will not be able to sing in that concert.
Rehearsing and choir etiquette is an essential part of any choir’s success and it’s important that each GCU member takes responsibility for their own actions:
Be punctual for rehearsals so we can start promptly at 6.30pm.
Ensure you have added all the markings that Jack provides to your music before rehearsals start.
Bring a pencil with you to take down any further markings.
Please turn off your mobile phone or keep it on silent. If you need to keep an eye on your phone for work reasons, please make Jack aware of this before the rehearsal starts.
Be prepared. Read the rehearsal notes that Jack sends out and ensure you take time to do your homework and practise at home.
We need to listen to everything Jack says during rehearsals, so please keep talking to a minimum. Talking wastes valuable rehearsal time and distracts your fellow singers.
Sometimes life, work, holiday and circumstances will prevent us from attending rehearsals. If you do need to miss a rehearsal, try to make sure you get up to speed on what you missed.
If you know you won’t be able to attend a rehearsal, there is an ‘Apologies Sheet’ kept next to the rehearsal registers, for you to let us know. We will be monitoring the registers closely for attendance and asking part reps to follow up on non-attendance.
Rehearsals are also about having fun, and we are lucky to have such an energetic and inspirational Music Director in Jack. So have fun and enjoy yourself, too!
